Welcome to AfriSam – the leading black-controlled construction materials group in southern Africa.

Founded in 1934, we are one of the most widely spread cement groups in the southern African region, with operations in South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and Swaziland.

We employ nearly 2 000 staff members and almost 1 000 contractors.

We have an annual cement production capacity of 4.6 million tons, which is produced from our 6 production facilities and distributed to our customers through our 9 strategically-located cement depots.

Our readymix operation can produce almost any concrete mix required by customers from any one of our 40 readymix concrete plants across the region.

We have the capacity to produce in excess of ten million tons of aggregate from our 16 quarries and aggregate operations every year.

Our Slagment business unit, located in Vanderbijlpark, has produced slagment over the last 50 years for the construction of major structures, including buildings, dams, bridges, roads and water retaining structures.

We are a proud Level 2 Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) contributor and have a 62.5 percent interest in Tanzania-based and listed Tanga Cement Company Limited.

We have been producing building materials for the southern African community since 1934, when our first cement plant was commissioned. Today we are the leading black-controlled building materials group in southern Africa.

AfriSam (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd was founded in 1934 as Anglo Alpha Cement Ltd, changing our name to Alpha (Pty) Ltd in 1996 and later to Holcim (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd in 2004.

The historic sale of the former Holcim (SA) (Pty) Ltd to the black-led AfriSam Consortium in 2007 resulted in the birth of the new brand, AfriSam.

'Afri' refers to our proud African heritage and the sub-Saharan African countries in which we operate. 'Sam' comes from the word samente or disamente which means cement in six of South Africa's official languages. In essence we are all about African Cement.

Our continued association with the Holcim Group and the technical relationship between the two companies provides us with access to Holcim's vast facilities worldwide - the Group is more globally spread than any other building materials group, with representation in more than 70 countries on all continents.
