Responsibilities:

  • Manage sampling, testing and reporting of raw materials, fuels, clinker and cement products to ensure product quality meet internal, market and SABS requirements
  • Manage the ISO 9001:2015 and SANS 1841 management systems
  • Designs the raw material mixture based upon product quality and production performance planning and targets; ensure optimal in-process and final product quality management and control
  • Recruit, train and manage people to achieve high levels of competence, performance, teamwork and alignment with organisational values, objectives and targets
  • Manage and controls departmental costs within budgetary expectations
  • Initiate, maintain and execute work duties in accordance with company policy, procedures, work instructions and risk management standards
  • Initiate, participate, contribute and execute cost saving initiatives and product quality optimisation programmes
  • Comply to and drive Safety, Health and Environmental programmes in area of responsibility

Experience and Qualifications:

  • BSc with Chemistry qualification, BSc in Metallurgy or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years Laboratory / Quality Management experience in cement or equivalent industry
  • Minimum 5 years knowledge of cement plant equipment, including operating systems
  • Experience in managing a team
  • Experience with ISO 9001 and Quality management and auditing systems
  • Experienced in laboratory equipment maintenance, calibration and operation, specifically XRF

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Analytical thinking, expert problem solving and reporting
  • Expert understanding of clinker and cement chemistry
